Leaf guard, so the trough keeps draining.
Gutter guard fitted over the run to keep leaves, needles and seed pods out of the trough and out of the downspout throat.
The problem
A packed gutter is the same as no gutter.
Under a maple or a spruce, a gutter fills faster than most people expect. Leaves go in, they sit in the water, they break down into a wet mat, and that mat is what finally blocks the outlet. After that the trough is just a long planter full of standing water hanging off your fascia.
The weight is the second problem. Wet debris plus water is heavy enough to pull hangers out of the fascia over a couple of seasons, and once the pitch is gone the run holds water even when it is empty.

The fix

Cover the trough, keep the ladder in the shed.
Leaf guard fits over the seamless run so debris stays on top and water goes through. It does not turn a gutter into a sealed unit and nothing ever makes a gutter permanently maintenance free, but it changes the job from clearing a packed trough by hand to brushing the top off now and then.
It is worth most where it is hardest to get to: second storeys, steep ground, and long barn eaves you cannot reach comfortably from a ladder.
What the job includes
What the job includes
- Fitted to your runCut and fitted to the seamless gutter on the building, not sold as a separate kit.
- Fitted with new or existing gutterAdd it while the new run goes on, or to gutter that is already sound.
- Outlets kept clearThe throat of the downspout is the part that actually blocks, so it gets attention.
- Whole runs or problem runsSome houses only need it on the two elevations under the trees.
- Quoted separatelyYou see what the guard adds, so you can decide run by run.
What you get out of it
What it changes
- Far fewer clean-outsThe trough stops filling with a wet mat every autumn.
- Less weight on the fasciaNo packed debris pulling the run down and killing the pitch.
- Fewer trips up a ladderEspecially on the elevations you would rather not be on.
- The gutter keeps working in a stormA blocked run overflows at the worst possible moment.
Real work
Runs under trees.
These are the elevations where debris is the whole problem.

How it goes
Adding guard to a run.
Say which elevations bother you
Usually the ones you cannot reach or the ones under the biggest tree.
Zach checks the gutter first
There is no point guarding a run that needs re-hanging. That gets sorted first.

FAQ
Leaf guard questions
Will I never have to clean the gutters again?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling it. Guard stops the trough packing solid with wet leaves. Fine grit and seed can still need attention. It turns a yearly dig-out into an occasional check.
Can it go on gutter I already have?
If the existing run is sound and hanging at the right pitch, yes. If it is sagging or leaking, that gets put right first, otherwise you are covering a problem.
Does it work on a metal roof?
Yes. Metal roofs shed debris fast, which means it arrives at the gutter fast. Guard is often more useful there, not less.
Do I have to do the whole house?
No. Plenty of jobs are just the two elevations under the trees.
